WAC Colorscaping: counter reference

The system in three sentences
Colorscaping is WAC's patent-pending smart lighting, power and control system for landscape lighting. Every fixture is individually addressed for brightness and color over standard two-conductor low-voltage wire, with the signal on the power line instead of Wi-Fi. Discrete warm white and cool white chips (RGBWW) deliver pure, high-CRI white, 85 plus and 90 plus depending on the fixture, tunable from 2700K to 6500K, plus the full color palette, all controlled in the MyWAC app.

Model numbers with CS are Colorscaping parts. The finish suffix follows the model: BK black, BZ bronze, SS stainless on the transformer. Confirm the current number with your Enlightening Sales account lead before it goes on a quote.
The transformer

Capacity is shared: a 300 W unit can carry 200 W of legacy on Zone 2 and 50 W of Colorscaping on Zone 1. Colorscaping is often layered on top of a Legacy white-light installation for exactly this reason.
Wire and voltage rules
- 12-inch rule. Smart control runs from different transformers stay at least 12 inches apart in the trench.
- Continuous power. No timer and no photocell on the 120 V feed. Schedules, sunset and photocell behavior live in the app.
- 10 V minimum. The tap is 15 V AC; the furthest fixture on a run stays at or above 10 V AC. Sum the VA on the run and pick 12, 10 or 8 AWG with WAC's online voltage drop calculator.
Design vocabulary
Hierarchy. Primary focal points (specimen trees, columns, water features, statues) get the most light. Secondary elements (walkways, minor trees, beds, stone walls) get moderate light. Background elements (perimeter hedges, fences, distant trees) get soft, low light.

Color layering. Foreground (patios, entries, seating) 2700K. Midground (specimen trees, texture) 3000K. Background (perimeter, moonlighting) 4000K to 4500K. By material: warm wood, limestone and brick 2700K; white stucco with black trim 4000K to 5000K. By species: evergreens, blue spruce and boxwood 4000K to 5000K; Japanese maples and deciduous branching 2700K.
Good, Better, Best
Never quote one fixture at a time. Package the bid.
- Essential (Good). Path lights staggered along the main walks and key entry uplights. Legacy-zone on and off on a daily schedule.
- Premium (Better). Uplights on the specimen trees, soft grazing on the facade, path lighting, deck and patio lights. Colorscaping groups (Front Yard Trees, Facade, Pathway) and tunable white automations matched to the siding.
- Luxury (Best). Full specification across the focal, secondary and background layers: RGBWW fixtures, water-feature well lights, tree-mounted moonlighting, linear hardscape under the step caps. Holiday overrides, indoor Wi-Fi wall stations, Control4 or Crestron through the ABiCUS gateway.
The discovery questions
- "When you and your family relax or entertain outdoors in the evening, how do you use the deck, the patio or the pool area?"
- "Would you value complete control of your outdoor atmosphere from your phone, with lights that come on at sunset and change for the holidays on their own?"
- "When you look out of the living room or the kitchen at night, what would you love to see lit: a big tree, a stone retaining wall, a waterfall?"
Commissioning quick steps
Before. Wi-Fi at the transformer location -70 dBm or better (-55 dBm is excellent), otherwise an extender or Ethernet. Master contractor account in the MyWAC app.
App discovery. Plus, Device, Colorscaping, Wi-Fi or Ethernet, scan the QR code inside the door, accept Discovery Mode, wait 3 to 4 minutes while Zone 1 blinks, then refresh the Fixtures tab.
Panel discovery. Press and release Zone 1, hold Presets 6 seconds until Zone 1 blinks, wait for three long flashes, then press Presets to cycle the 16 test colors.
Resets. Network: press Reset 5 times quickly. Factory: hold Reset 10 seconds (deletes all data).
Schedules. An On schedule never turns lights off; build a separate Daily Off with Sunrise or a fixed time and ALL OFF. Holidays: edit the daily schedule, Events/Holidays, date range, holiday automation; it restores itself.
Handoff. Settings, Location Details, location name, Transfer Ownership, homeowner email. Retain Admin Access ON keeps your firm as Admin (WAC's recommendation for service contracts); OFF is the clean handoff.
Safe to say, or not
Safe: the three technology points; 2700K to 6500K at 85 plus and 90 plus CRI; 150 W and 300 W transformers with two zones and shared capacity; the 12-inch rule, continuous power, the 10 V minimum; -70 dBm; 3 to 4 minutes of discovery; 16 test colors; Owner and Admin with Retain Admin Access.
Do not say: a percentage increase in home value; "half the install time"; "patented" (WAC's handout says patent-pending); any price from memory; any lead time you have not confirmed that day.
